MATCH REPORT - SAT 13 DEC

Waverton Jets 3 - 7 Malpas

A tough game in very cold conditions against a well organised Malpas team.

Having taken the lead through Jakob (1) the game was end to end with Malpas going ahead at 1-2 and 2-3. Goals from Jacob (1) and Frank (1) kept us in the match and we went into the final 10 minutes 3-4 down. As we tried to attack, moving Jakob up top, we were caught by Malpas on the break as their outstanding striker took his tally to 5 goals.

The lads kept going and our passing improved in the final quarter with some neat play between Toby and Jacob. A great save from Jakob's fine run and a goal line clearance meant that we can be a little disappointed at the score line.

Malpas showed some good organisation and their passing and movement was impressive.

Well done to our lads.

MATCH REPORT - WED 10 DEC

It was great to see all our lads really keen and very excited to be playing under the floodlights against a strong Blacon side.

In the first game we took a little while to settle and understand our positions but as we grew into the game we scored a great goal from Lewis. Towards the end of the first match we began to understand our positions a bit more and some of our defending and goalkeeping was great.

Going into the second match we showed much more confidence and kept Blacon at bay for long periods. Our play was much better and highlights were Lewis' overall commitment to tackle, chase and carry the ball. Also Bailey was very unlucky not score at least a couple from his volley, his great run and his free kick. Special mention to Max who also really understood his positional play and the need to attack and be confident about getting the ball.

Well done to all the boys on cold and windy night!

MATCH REPORTS - SAT 29 NOV

Tough fixtures this weekend resulted in:

Game 1:
Waverton Jets 7 - 9 Ellesmere Port Rangers

A fantastic game in which we were ahead for long periods. According to Coach Col we just lost our way in the final quarter but against high quality opposition, who drew 3-3 recently with Newton A, this was a really great effort by all our lads. Highlight was some excellent goalkeeping from Jack and the usual goal haul from Frank (lots).

Game 2:
Waverton Jets 6 - 6 Ellesmere Port Rangers

A wonderful game for the neutral saw us go ahead and then pegged back to 5-2 down. A brilliant last quarter fight back from all our boys, saw us go up 6-5 with a minute to play only to concede a bullet shot right on whistle. Highlight was a 'beach ball moment' which set up Jakob's forth (of 5) plus Sion's good finish (1).

Saughall Colts 6 - 0 Waverton Rockets

A much improved Saughall outfit were on good form against us. Coach Steve commented on some really strong individual play including great runs and skills but that Saughall's overall team play led by two excellent midfielders was a little too much to cope with. But a great effort to keep going and well done to all the lads.

AFC Waverton Jackets

Hi everyone,  me again.

We are planning to order training coats for the boys with the AFC Waverton logo and boys initials on.

The rrp of the jackets is £25 but we have some funding that we can put towards them so would only need parents to contribute £15.

If you are interested can you please reply here by Wednesday 3rd December as one of the coaches is due to see the supplier the following day. I will need to collect your £15 at training next week.  If your boy is in a match that clashes with training or cannot attend training next week let me know and I will give you my bank details so you can transfer the money to me - we will not confirm any orders if we haven’t received the money by the 6th.

Thanks again,

Marc.

AFC Waverton U7s Christmas Party

Hi everyone.

We have arranged a Christmas party for the boys at the indoor Centre at Christleton high school at 1pm on Saturday 13th December.

We will be doing some Christmas-themed football training and games with Robbie and the coaches followed by food and drinks on the balcony. There will also be Christmas presents for Robbie to hand out to the boys.

Can you please reply to me here by 6th December to confirm if your boy can attend so we can confirm numbers.

Please note there will be no training on the 13th so the last training session at the duck pond before Christmas will be on 6th December.

Parents are welcome to stay at the centre and I'm sure some will pop over to the Ring o’ Bells for a few drinks afterwards (Robbie is definitely up for it!)

If any parents are interested in helping out with preparing the food please let me know and I will let you know nearer the time how you can help.

No money is needed for the party, we will fund it out of the weekly subs.

Many thanks,

Marc.

CODE OF CONDUCT / RESPECT GUIDE

Dear Parents/Guardians

The club, U7s coaches and helpers would like to remind everyone of their responsibilities whilst supporting at matches and at training. This reminder is deemed required by all coaches and Robbie due to some over enthusiastic behaviour, unsuitable language and over pressurising of boys at recent games and during training sessions.

Please find the link to the clubs Code of Conduct which summarises the clubs expectations.

http://www.afcwaverton.com/codes-of-conduct-1/parent-and-spectators-code-of-conduct

Please also take time to look at the FA Respect Campaign videos and comments from respected professionals in the game.

http://www.thefa.com/respectguide/

This is a tough and embarrassing watch at times. The guide requires a FA Fan number and password but please don't be put off completing this (it takes two minutes) as for many of us this guide will radically help the way we support our team, our sons and our coaches.

We trust this information will be taken in the spirit it is being given.

Thanks for your continued support

MATCH REPORT - WED 26 NOV

An experimental Wednesday fixture on the 4G under floodlights saw a strong Jets team take on Blacon 'A' and Blacon 'B' teams.

We can role out this format now and have spoken to Blacon about playing a 'development' team to give some boys a run out under the lights without the pressure of a Saturday league fixture. The fact the ball stays in play on a small pitch means the game is a good training tool and hopefully can give more touches and time on the ball to our developing players.

Great effort from our boys who won against Blacon 'B' 9-0 and then won again against Blacon 'A' 9-3.

Some wonderful goals, great passing, running and tackles. We showed our class at times and our desire to get on the ball was too much for a robust Blacon squad. Player for player we won our battles.

Goals from the whole team - William (1), Jacob (3), James (3), Jakob (3), Toby (3) and Frank (5)...!

Well done.

MATCH REPORTS - SAT 22 NOV

Christleton Newscene 2 - 4 Waverton Jets
A well earned win against a robust Christleton side with one outstanding outfield player.

The match saw Waverton putting together some accurate passing moves in the early stages. Our goals came from James (2) and Frank (2) and the win was assured with an outstanding save from Jakob to keep us 3-2 up. Strong technical strikes from James were the technical highlights.

Well done to Chris for refereeing in difficult circumstances and in such an unbiased manner.

Waverton Rockets 4 - 6 Elton Youth
A bit of a 'mixed bag' of a performance from a team that have not had much match time together. Going forward we scored a really great goal involving William, Jacob and finished cooly by Toby (2). Freddie and Jacob scored excellent individual goals from strong runs to put us 1-0, and then 2-1 and 4-3 up but we conceded some poor goals at the back by either conceding possession in very dangerous areas, a lack of conviction in some key tackles and some losses of concentration.

Elton gained confidence and their front two boys put us under pressure in the final quarter to win the match. They deserved their first win of the season and were rightly delighted which was nice to see. Elton are a club with good values who play the game in a nice spirit.

Well done to all our boys for their effort.

MATCH REPORTS - SAT 8 NOVEMBER

Waverton Jets 6 - 3 Blacon Youth

An excellent display against a strong and tough tackling Blacon side. Solid defending, breaking up the play, passing and running saw us score some fine team and individual goals from Jakob (3), William, Tom and Lewis.

Joshua and Will B did well in midfield and attack. Alex had some great runs into space and was unlucky the referee disallowed his goal (goal line technology).

All in all a fine win against a good team.
Well done.

Waverton Rockets 9 - 6 Chester Nomads Colts

A great performance from the boys against a Nomads team that got stronger as the match went on. Some good passing orchestrated by Toby and Jacob W, powerful finishing from Frank, tenacious tackling from Rory M, George and Freddie and great positional play from Harry P.

Goals - Frank (5!!), Toby (2), Jacob and Freddie.

A great win against a team we held to a 4:4 draw on the first day of the season. This shows the improvements we are making through our training with Robbie.
Well done.

Match Report 04/10/14 - Waverton Rockets V Saughall Colts

Waverton 4  v Saughall 4

Another four all draw, so everyone went home happy again!

Waverton cruised through the gears early on with goals from Frank and Alex and soon we were 3-0 up! We sensed a big score and sat back in the second quarter. Saughall brought on fresh faces and pinned us back with some decent, strong football getting back to 3:2.

An even final two quarters saw Waverton go 4:3 up before Saughall equalised with 5 minutes to go with a very debatable goal (kicking it from Williams hands). Waverton kept trying to pass the ball from the back and we had a few scary moments. Going forward we looked great and kept hitting them on break. Only some brilliant saves from the Saughall keeper kept them in the game.

James, Alex, and Rory played well throughout and kept trying to do the right thing and play our passing game. Jakob and Jacob were great going forward and had some strong runs. Frank was a constant threat with strong running, tackling and goals. William was strong in defence and ended the game playing two quarters in goal and showing good instincts as "sweeper keeper" to rush off his line!

Special mention to Frank Rose who was spotted by Man Utd scouts and asked to go for a trial with Man Utd academy.

Well done boys.

Thanks to parents for helping with set-up.

Training and matches - Information for parents

For any parents who weren't at training last Saturday - the coaches mentioned to the parents after training that any boys who don't play in a match on a Saturday and miss training won't be selected for a match the following week, so please do your best to attend training every week if you want your boy to play in a match. Please make sure that you register your boy with Marc (Toby's dad) or Rebecca (Oscar's mum) when you arrive at training and pay your £2 weekly subscription.

Also any boys who have not submitted a registration form and paid the annual subscription cannot play in a match as they are not insured.

Finally, any boys who play in a match but don't attend training still need to pay the weekly subscription. Please make sure that you give this money either to one of the coaches at the match (Rob, Steve, Chris or Colin) or Marc or Rebecca if they are at the same match.

Many thanks,

AFC Waverton Under 7s coaches.

Match Report 27/09/14 - Princes Villa v Waverton Rockets

Princes Villa 4 v Waverton Rockets 4

A cracking performance from our boys and a great result against a well organised home team.

We improved throughout the match, always looking to find space and pass the ball. Some really good tenacious tackling at the back - particularly from Rory D and Freddie P. Everybody in the team made a positive contribution and some excellent debut performances.

Goals from Frank R (3) and Freddie P (1).

Well done boys!

Match Report 27/09/14 - Waverton Jets V Ellesmere Port Rangers

All

Well Done Boys!

This was a promising performance with the boys battling against a well organised Ellesmere Port team. The overall score was 8-2 to the visitors but the boys managed a 2-2 draw in the second half of the match having conceded early goals in the first two quarters. Goals from Sion and Finlay and lots of effort and enthusiasm made this a match that ended on a high!

Thanks again to Toby's dad Marc, for both helping set up and for refereeing!

Steve

Match Report 20/9/14 - Christleton Newscene v Waverton Jets

Boys , Parents and Grandparents

Well Done to Frank , Freddie , Hugo , Jakob , Toby & Tom for a tremendous team effort in yesterday's exciting 7-7 draw against CNS.

Playing against a mobile, robust opposition on a relatively small sized pitch poses a challenge but the boys managed periods of crisp accurate passing to move the ball forward and made good use of any available space. Our goalkeeping is also improving with each game.

Having gone 1 up we were hit by a flurry of goals in response and found ourselves 5-1 down by half time. The boys showed great resilience , team spirit and matched the opposition for physical strength to pull the game back.

There were a good spread of goals across the team with some particularly strong , accurate shooting from Jakob and Frank.

Great support for the team , positive input and helping the boys play the right way !!
Thanks Again
Steve

Match Report 20/9/14 - Waverton Rockets v Elton Youth FC

A dramatic final quarter saw Waverton come back from 3-1 down to take a well deserved 3-3 draw.

Either team could have won it late on as the game opened up and chances came at both ends. Our goals came from Jacob (2) and James (1) who along with Sion were able to break through the Elton midfield with strong running on a number of occasions. William was dependable as our holding midfielder and made some great last ditch tackles. Alex, Sam and Jack held the midfield together and kept trying to play our passing game from the back and run into the space.

Overall the result was fair and the game was played in a great spirit by both teams who kept trying right to the final whistle.

At times both teams were quite bunched together which was leaving plenty of space out wide and in behind each defence. At training we will work on trying to trying to find this space either by running into it or by passing to clever players who stand in the space.

Thanks to Paul for refereeing and for giving us all a good laugh by slipping over, prompting cheers from both sets of fans. Thanks also to the helpers for setting up and putting away the goals and markers.

Well played everyone!

Welcome to AFC Waverton Under 7's

Welcome to our new team blog for the AFC Waverton U7 team.
We have entered two teams into the Chester & District Red and Blue mini-soccer leagues which is a 5 a-side format. The team names are Rockets and Jets.
The under 7’s squad will have around 26 players and each week the intention is to play two matches and have a training session run by Robbie Mills. Every Thursday afternoon the coaches will update this website with two teams of six players and details of matches, venue, arrival time, kick-off times and any other necessary information. We will need confirmation that players can play no later than 10am on the Friday morning. After this time we will offer the team place to another player.
If your boy's name is not on a team list he will be training with Robbie at 10:30 at the Duck Pond. Again we will use this site to post any changes to this routine especially as we approach winter and the weather worsens. If your child is selected for a match that does not clash with training then of course they are still welcome to attend training as well if they have the energy to do both!
It is the intention that over the season, each player will get a combination of match time and training time – we will rotate the players and keep a track of both match and training time. Please note; the training sessions are extremely important as these actually offer the boys much more time ‘on the ball’ than in match environments and ensure that going forward all our squad is ‘match ready’ in terms of confidence and technical ability. The structure of some matches and continued technical training is supported by both AFC Waverton and the FA guidelines.
A full playing kit for every squad member has been ordered and should be arriving soon, These will be distributed to all players who have registered and paid; we will also be offering a discounted price for AFC Waverton waterproof training jackets. For early season matches before the kits arrive AFC Waverton shirts will be provided but can players please wear black (or dark) coloured shorts and socks.
A few early season reminders:-
- At training and matches shin-pads must be used and must be worn inside socks. Boys will not be allowed to play otherwise.
- Please remember to bring water bottles/fluids even in winter
- The cost per week (in addition to the annual subscription) is £2. This is also payable for children who play in a match but do not attend training; This is to pay for Robbie who is a professional coach from whom all the boys will develop and benefit from, any money left over goes into a pot and will pay for an event with the children later in the season like the one at Tranmere last season
- We need all player registration forms and subscriptions in by Saturday 27th September. After this date any child who has not paid a subscription will not be considered to play in any matches.
Fixtures can be found at these links:
 Jets (Blue League)
Rockets (Red League)
