MATCH REPORTS - SAT 6 JUNE

Two matches for our Rockets versus the Upton lads from our league...

Rockets 4 : 0 Upton
A well controlled display from the boys in this game. We rotated players in the first two quarters and changed goalie each quarter and all the boys listened and held their positions brilliantly.

After an even first quarter we started to make better moves and our passing improved which was sending in our players through on the Upton goal time after time. Goals came from George (1) followed by Finlay (2) and Will B (1). It could have been many more...we hit the post 3 times and the goal line technology wasn't working either!!

At the back we were brilliant with Charlie & William winning every tackle and showing a great calmness to receive the ball from the goalie and look for a forward pass. This was the most pleasing thing as its coming from our training sessions.

All the boys were voted man of match.

Rockets 5 : 3 Upton
A fine result from the boys in this game.

In the first quarter there was some great passing and positional pay. Lewis (1) opened the scoring with a great individual effort followed by goals from Harry (2), one of which was a superb free kick.

At this point we had control of the game and Hugo was rarely threatened. In the second half we had to readjust the formation moving some of the boys out of their normal position, which lead to the team losing shape and we began to leave openings at the back.

As a consequence of this Upton were able to get back into the game scoring 3 goals in the second half and they continued to pressure us. This led to a nail biting last ten minutes but the boys came through showing great character and commitment.

Josh (1) showed great composure to put us back in front after great link up play from Bailey and Harry. Last, but not least, Rory (1) finished with a low shot into the corner which he deserved after opting to play at the back for most of the game. At times he was our rock!

-----

Well done to all the boys in both games. In the Arrows game they won 14:0 so Carl is off to a great start!

Thanks to Steve & Quint for helping run one of the games.

MATCH REPORT - SAT 23 MAY

Rockets 4 : 3 Upton

A fine comeback from 0 : 2 down to win the game in the last minute!

Our boys started slowly and we conceded a couple of poor goals by giving the ball away or not clearing our lines.

In the second and third quarters we started to play much better with much  more organisation at the back. In midfield we started to get 'stuck in' with Lewis making some great tackles. Up front our strikers, George (2) & Joshua (1), both scored with fine finishes to either side of the keeper and a top corner!

We conceded another silly goal against the run of play.

At 3 : 3 we piled on the pressure in the last 10 minutes with William moving into midfield. We forced a corner with a minute to go which Lewis fired into the penalty area and the ball was deflected into the Upton net to give us the victory.

Overall a good game with some promising moments.

MATCH REPORT - 16th MAY

Rockets 0 : 6 Ellesmere Port

A heavy defeat to a combative Ellesmere Port who won most of the key battles and tackles. Our boys held out 0:0 in the first quarter but a defensive error (ball straight down the middle!) resulted in Ellesmere opening the scoring in the second quarter.

Our heads fell a little and Ellesmere Port upped their game resulting a really tough 20 minute spell where they took the game away from us.

The boys kept going and we were unlucky not a score on a few occasions.
