MATCH REPORT - SAT 10 DECEMBER

BLACON YOUTH 0 - 6 ROCKETS

A comfortable win this morning to maintain top spot of our Group in the Chester Shield. The most pleasing aspect was that we really tried, especially in the second half, to knock the ball about and our movement was really good.

We talked about taking the game seriously and from a solid defensive base our midfield of Zac, Bailey and Austin with Rory's movement up top was too good for Blacon - albeit that they have brought in some new lads which does make them much more solid.

We scored firstly from a first time hit from Bailey to the bottom corner and then again from Rory who turned and found the bottom corner. Our domination lead to a series of corners which were expertly lifted into the danger area by Bailey. Scoring more from corners and set pieces when we have Bailey, Xander and Harry delivering them is something we need to capitalise on more going ahead.

We introduced Fin and Wills after 13 minutes and this added strength with Fin able to break up play and bomb forward and Wills was able to make good runs and keep the Blacon defence busy.

At 2-0 at half-time the game was far from over so we talked about relaxing more in possession and shouting if players had time. I felt our midfield sometimes didn't give enough options for our defenders or on occasions we just hit the ball first time or out of play, without relaxing and thinking, but that is a minor criticism really.

Charlie, Alex and Hugo had a quiet morning with only a few scary moments which we mopped up well. I think Hugo only had one real save to make and his kicking and passing was 100%.

Overall our second half display was excellent - Austin and Zac had high energy games which resulted in them both bagging good goals from fine moves. The best move of the game came from our left with Fin getting the ball into Austin who got to by-line and cut back for Zac - bringing admiration from Neil the Blacon coach.

Bailey got his second before Wills wrapped up the game with his second in two games to wrap up a good mornings work against an improved and more organised Blacon outfit with an excellent goalkeeper.

We gave MOTM to Bailey who had a very fine game and deserved MOTM for his leadership and control of the game throughout. Considering this later I felt Rory also deserves a special mention as his movement, great goal and numerous assists showed how much he has come on this year by getting his head up and adding passing to his running game.

Let's keep this going and see where we end up...
