Hi all
Welcome to our new Rockets blog where we can carry match/training news, match day directions, match reports, and news & photos. Also it remains important to just check the blog before travelling to games (especially in winter) just in case of cancellations.
This week we have a full compliment of 12 players so 9 will play the match and 3 will train at the Dock Pond with Robbie at 10:30am.
Ellesmere Port v Rockets
Venue: Whitby Sports & Social, Dunkirk Lane, Chester Road, Ellesmere Port, CH65 6QF
Time: 09:30 KO (09:00 arrival)
Hugo (g)
William
Bailey
Finlay
Lewis
Joshua
Alex
Harry
George
Training with Robbie - Duck Pond at 10:30
Charlie
Rory
Will B
On the mid-week training we have spoken to Robbie and the idea is that we will share a pitch hopefully across the three teams but certainly Rockets squad and the Development squad. We are close to the 'light nights' when we can use the Waverton Community grass pitches where we have all the kit we need in the lock-up.
We will confirm mid-week training as soon as possible,
Thanks

MATCH REPORT - SAT 28 FEB - CHESTER NOMADS
Thanks to everyone turning out last Saturday.
A tough start to the new format against a well organised and talented Chester Nomad's.
The match was really useful to see all the players, although it was quite chaotic with lots of subs and 12 boys all very keen and many wanting to play as striker!
In parts we competed well - particularly at times in the first two 1/4's and in the final 1/4 when we substituted less and the team was allowed to settle and hold positions. Final 1/4 was 0-0 which is a big positive against a very good team.
Highlight of the day was Hugo's great display in goal, bearing in mind it was his first match in goal he saved everything he could get to and was our Man of the Match. Also special mention to Bailey who in the final 1/4 put in a great performance.
All the boys did well in difficult circumstances on a quick pitch. We didn't give up and everyone was really keen to be involved.
Thanks

NOTICE TO PARENTS/GUARDIANS – FUTURE FORMAT OF AFC WAVERTON U7's
Following meetings between the coaches and
Robbie Mills the decision has been taken to change the current ‘mixed’ team
approach to matches. This will come into effect this weekend although it is appreciated that many boys will be away for half-term.
AFC Waverton prides itself on being an
inclusive club and we hope the new format will offer something for all players.
We feel the time is right to select squads in line with how other teams and the
Chester & District league is set-up with two ability streamed divisions (Blue &
Red).
The coaches have selected a Blue squad, Red
squad and Development squad with the aim being that the squads in the leagues
can compete well against rivals in each league and the Development squad will
train with Robbie Mills to bring on technical ability and confidence. We will
try this format on Saturday mornings for the remaining 4 months of this season.
The aim of the Development squad is to
encourage improvement so that players can either join the Red or Blue squads or
if we get more parent coaches coming forward over the next 4 months we can enter two squads into the
Red division next year...so have three U7's teams. Currently we do not have enough level 1 coaches to do this.
Players selected for the Blue & Red
squads will be expected to train for one hour mid-week and we will communicate
with parents around which evening suits most parents. There will be a small
additional pitch cost contribution each week during the winter months.
We hope the above is clear enough but please
email any queries to robstewart@jenkinsgroup.com
who can forward and discuss with the other coaches and Robbie Mills. Please note Rob is away next week so will deal with queries on return from half-term.
New squads will be announced Thursday for the training and matches on Saturday.

MATCH REPORTS - SAT 31 JAN
A great weekend with 3 victories!!
Blacon Youth 5 - 7 Waverton
Blacon Youth 6 - 7 Waverton
2 great victories and a great effort from all the boys at a freezing cold Goals.
Some great performances, most notably from Rory M with some tough tackling and reading of the game from the back. Also special mentions to Toby, Bailey, Will B and Joshua T who did very well and were enthusiastic.
Elton Youth 1 - 6 Waverton Rockets
A fantastic and well disciplined performance for the boys with great awareness of team members and good controlled passing.
We controlled the game from start to finish and worked hard for all four quarters. When our chances came we took them and when we were called upon to defend we worked hard.
The boys were all excellent and all deserved to be mentioned as it was a perfect 'team' display (Jack, Freddie, Frank, William S, Lewis, Finlay, Jacob W, Jakob S).
Well done to all boys. It was great that everyone available got a run out.

FUTURE MATCH CANCELLATIONS
All
Thanks for the amazing turn out at training this morning, in challenging conditions! Highlight of the morning was Jacob and Jakob's sliding tackles in 5 inches of standing water.
We have two fixtures planned next week and subject to availability we will try to keep the teams for those who were let down this morning by Princes Villas cancellation.
From now on, during the wet spell, we will use the blog to advise any cancellations. Please consult the blog before you get ready and head off. If there are cancellations we will update the blog just as soon as we know and this will be done at least 1 hour before KO time.
If the blog is not carrying a cancellation then the game will be on.
Thanks

MATCH REPORT - SAT 20 DEC
Newton Athletic 5 : 5 Waverton Jets
A really impressive and worthy draw against the top side in the league, who beat us 8-1 earlier in the season. Coach Col reported that we passed and controlled the ball brilliantly.
Some great tackling, defending and breaking the play from Freddie, Finlay, Lewis and Rory M and goals from Frank (3), Toby (1) and James (1) put us in a position where we felt disappointed with the draw at the final whistle.
Thanks to our boys and to Colin for stepping in at the last minute for this unexpected fixture. It was a great end to the first half of the season.
Well done to everyone involved.
